The Silk Thumb Story –
The Silk Thumb opened its doors in January of 1980. For the past 3 decades we have specialized in creating unique interior design utilizing the world’s finest artificial flowers, plants and trees for our business and residential clients.
The Silk Thumb prides itself on our well-established tradition of professional, customized service as well as our beautiful selection of quality products. Whether your needs are completing an office suite or reception lobby, restaurant or hotel décor, business gifts to a client or employee, or for your home or celebration needs, let The Silk Thumb complete the perfect natural environment without maintenance or replacement costs.
Our flowers cannot be found at Target, Hobby Lobby or Michael’s Craft stores. Our stems are a premium quality and more realistic than silk flowers at big brand retail stores.
The silk floral and plant industry has come a long way. Gone are “grandma’s” old flowers and In are “real touch” flowers and plants that look so real, they have been watered! Silk/faux/permanent flowers and plants are a great solution for windowless rooms, creating spaces, barriers, hiding wires, second homes, adding color and warmth to your home or business. The Silk Thumb serves as an ultimate showcase of the latest trends in silk florals and plants.
Julie Brugioni is Chicago’s expert in high-end floral and plant design. Julie began working for the previous owner of The Silk Thumb when she was 16 years old. After school, weekends and holiday breaks she learned the ins and outs of the silk floral industry. Attending Northern Illinois University, Julie interned at the business and received college credit. It was during these years that she learned how to design arrangements, how to keep track of inventory, creating relationships with wholesalers and attending annual trade shows to see the latest and greatest in the industry. In 2007, Julie bought the business from the previous owner and continues to serve the North Shore and Chicago-land areas with all that she had learned and implementing her own spin and creativity on projects.
